The Native Americans who lived on the land that is now known as Big Bear were the Serrano people. 'SERRANO' means 'HIGHLANDERS'.

THE CAPTAIN'S ANCHORAGE is a restaurant that is said to be haunted.
It is illegal to jump off a boat to swim in the lake. There are many obstacles under the surface of the water that are not visible to the eye, and it is quite dangerous.
Swimming in the lake is allowed while you are within 50 feet of the shore, within 20 feet from a private dock or at a designated swimming area. We recommend The East Boat Ramp for swimming.
